Language
meets Culture

IDSK – The Institute for German Language and Culture e.V.

The Institute for German Language and Culture e.V. (IDSK), an affiliated institute of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, was founded in 1996. Ever since then, we have been striving to offer German language instruction at the highest academic standard at two locations: Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Halle (Saale).

For 27 years, the IDSK has been committed to teaching German as a foreign language in an intercultural setting. Our institute is distinguished for partnerships with universities and colleges in the U.S., Japan, and China that have lasted for many years. As we are constantly seeking to further develop our concepts and programs, these institutes of higher education continue to be highly satisfied customers and partners. All of this is made possible by an experienced and competent team of staff and teachers who, always growing in intercultural competence, prepare participants in our courses for their start at university or a new job with much enthusiasm and expertise.
As appealing and hospitable course locations, both Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Halle (Saale) have a big part in the success of our work.

Course locations in Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Halle (Saale)

At our headquarters in Wittenberg, a UNESCO World Heritage site, we organize tailor-made study abroad programs for partner universities in the U.S., Japan, and China. These programs typically last anywhere from three to fifteen weeks. Here, we also host international summer courses (for which DAAD scholarships can be obtained), have courses for teachers’ continued education, and offer German courses for local companies.

At our branch in Halle (Saale), international university students and other students of German prepare for their entrance at university or to a new job in intensive courses. Those who are MLU students already, whether full-time or exchange students, benefit from our evening courses taking place during the semester.

The IDSK is a licenced test center for TestDaF and telc. These official language tests regularly take place at both locations.
