HOW ABOUT A HOST FAMILY?

Learning German and immersing yourself in German daily life

This works best in a host family. You live alone or with another course participant during the German intensive course with a family in Halle (Saale) and can thus directly apply your German language skills from the course.

Who are our host families?

Every year, around 250 international German learners from around 25 different countries participate in our language courses. Many of them stay with our host families. These families are as diverse and varied as anywhere in the world. They live in the city area of Halle.

What does a typical day look like?

On 4 days of the week, you are in class at 08:30 or from 13:15. After that, we offer some leisure activities, or you can explore the city with your new friends. On weekends, you are free to travel individually or do something with your host family.

What is the role of international participants in the host family?

During your stay in Halle (Saale), you live with a family. You will receive breakfast and dinner and can share the kitchen, bathroom, and living room. Like in any family, there are also some duties, such as helping with household chores, keeping your room clean, and setting the table for dinner together. Because – host families are not a hotel. Particular attention should be paid to energy-saving tips. Energy costs for electricity and water have increased significantly in Germany. Therefore, it is important not to waste water and electricity and to observe waste separation. Otherwise, it’s about having a good time and experiencing as much as possible.
